The UBridge Difference

On average, fewer than 15% of freshman international applicants get into UC San Diego.

Those odds can feel daunting, even for straight-A students. But the "2+2" transfer opportunity holds real promise.

UC San Diego's transfer admission rate is dramatically higher than its freshman rate — and for California college students who hit the right GPA, earn enough credits, and choose the right courses, the priority admissions pathway opens. With UBridge's expert guidance on your side, your chances get even better.

How it Works

Two years building your foundation, followed by two years at UC San Diego.

After spending your first two years of undergrad at one of our partner colleges in California, you can apply for priority transfer admission into UC San Diego. UCSD's campus in La Jolla sits minutes from some of the most beautiful coastline in California and is known for being a world-class research university.

But successfully managing the transfer system to reach UCSD is complex and difficult — especially while juggling the rigors of student life.CollegeCare® is UBridge's multi-year, in-person advising and transfer support program, designed specifically to help international students gain admission to the universities of their dreams.

Made possible by UBridge advisors

Student success stories

Terry

UC San Diego

“UBridge has helped me in the past two years through academic planning, including course selection, drafting and editing my UC application essays. They helped me resolve challenges efficiently, saving time I would have spent researching uncertain answers online.”

Chia-Hua

UC San Diego

“During the past two years, UBridge advisors have helped me a lot. Before coming to the U.S., I was very afraid to face everything alone. I wasn’t sure how to handle problems correctly not just related to school, but also daily life in an unfamiliar environment. However, the advisors patiently guided me through personal questions, from enrolling in classes and accessing campus resources to communicating with professors and applying to UC schools.”

Kerwin

UC San Diego

“I am extremely grateful for the support from my University Bridge advisor over the past two years. Without her, my experience at community college would not have been that smooth.”

Frequently asked questions

What GPA do I need to pursue UC Diego?

The minimum required GPA for international students to transfer into UCSD is a 2.8/4.0. That said, public data suggests that students have at least a 3.6/4.0 to stand a realistic chance at being admitted. There are a host of other important factors that come into play, most importantly the major you choose. UBridge advisors are experts on the UCSD admissions process and help guide our students to acceptance rates as high as 10x the international first-year rate.

What TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo do I need to pursue UC Diego?

There is no minimum requirement for UC San Diego. As a transfer student, you are judged on your performance at UBridge in your English courses, not on standardized tests. What's more, your tests are not needed for transfer. You will only need these tests to meet the minimum admissions requirements to get into UBridge.

Can this really help me if I’m already a great student?

Yes. Even high-achieving students benefit from the guaranteed transfer pathway, which removes uncertainty and allows students to plan their academic trajectory with clarity and confidence.

Is this a tutoring service?

No, our advisors cover much, much more than tutoring. You will be assigned a professional, in-person advisor who covers all aspects of your student needs. From creating a full two-year plan to transfer to UC San Diego, to actually registering for classes, required academic meetings/updates during the semester, written reports to parents, and transfer assistance to UC San Diego in year two.

Is UC Diego admission guaranteed?

No. Students attending one of UBridge’s California campuses will enjoy what is called “priority” admissions to UCSD. That means that they will have priority over students who are looking to transfer to UCSD from colleges or universities outside of the state of California. This is a benefit afforded to all California two-year college students. Approximately 92% of all students admitted to the University of California system come from a two-year college in California.
