The UBridge Difference

On average, fewer than 10% of international freshman applicants are admitted to USC.

Those odds can feel daunting, even for straight-A students. But the "2+2" transfer opportunity holds real promise.

Many prestigious four-year universities are more likely to admit transfer students who have already completed their first two years of undergrad at a select American college. SMC is one of those colleges. Students attending UBridge @ Santa Monica College benefit from a USC credit articulation guarantee, meaning your credits are assured to transfer upon acceptance.

SMC is #1 in transfers to USC

How it Works

Two years to  USC, followed by two years at  USC

After spending your first two years of undergrad at our partner school, Santa Monica College, you can apply for transfer admission to USC with a significant structural advantage: SMC is the #1 transfer college into USC, sending around 110 students every year.

But the transfer system is complex and difficult to manage — especially while juggling the rigors of student life. CollegeCare® is UBridge's multi-year, in-person advising and transfer support program, designed specifically to help international students gain admission to the universities of their dreams.

Made possible by UBridge advisors

Our advisors are the heart and soul of UBridge — all graduates of top schools themselves. Through ongoing one-on-one planning and mentorship, these academic and transfer specialists work tirelessly to facilitate your goals and support your success every step of the way.

Natalia

“Before I joined University Bridge, I had no plan of transferring. My advisor at University Bridge encouraged me to work hard and aim high. Without this guidance, I would not have been admitted to such prestigious UC campuses.”

Jorge

U of Southern California

“My UBridge advisor is amazing. She not only helped me adjust to the new experience of college life in the US and helped me with how I organize my courses, but she also provided me with lots of support in preparing my art portfolios when applying to USC’s film school. Thanks to my advisor, I was able to gain admission to this prestigious film school, which is considered one of the best in the world.”

Frequently asked questions

What GPA do I need to pursue USC?

USC does not publish a minimum required GPA for transfer admission. That said, public data suggests that students typically need a strong GPA to have a realistic chance at being admitted, and competitiveness varies a lot by major. UBridge advisors help students plan their courses, choose a major strategically, and build a transfer profile that gives them the strongest possible shot at USC.

What TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo do I need to pursue USC?

USC’s English testing requirements can vary depending on a student’s educational background and where their prior coursework was completed. Unlike most other California schools that UBridge helps students apply to, USC can require these standardized language tests. What matters most is that you meet the minimum admissions requirements to get into UBridge first.

Can this really help me if I’m already a great student?

Yes. USC is extremely competitive, and being a strong student is necessary but not always sufficient. Many talented students still get rejected because they choose the wrong major, miss a prerequisite sequence, take the wrong mix of courses, or fail to build the right overall academic story. UBridge helps high-performing students avoid these mistakes and execute a deliberate two-year plan that maximizes transfer outcomes.

Is this a tutoring service?

No, our advisors cover much, much more than tutoring. You will be assigned a professional, in-person advisor who covers all aspects of your student needs. From creating a full two-year plan to transfer to USC, to actually registering for classes, required academic meetings/updates during the semester, written reports to parents, and transfer assistance to USC in year two.

Is USC admission guaranteed?

No. USC does not offer a guaranteed transfer pathway. The goal of UBridge is to make you as competitive as possible by ensuring you take the right courses, maintain a strong GPA, and execute the transfer process correctly, but USC admissions decisions are selective and not guaranteed. UBridge sends multiple students to USC each year.
